Let’s have a go at blogging

I’ve been keen to start blogging with students for a couple of years now – and it looks like it will finally happen. I dragged Mrs. E (grade 3/4 teacher) along to the 2009 ICTEV Conference and we packed in as many blogging sessions as possible. We came away all excited and filled (to overflowing??) with ideas and pedagogical theory … enough to fill an ocean.
The ‘best’ thing (for me) was that there was now someone ELSE who knew what I was on about. That’s what it’s all about, really – start small, get one person interested and see where it goes from there. Well, it’s going far. Not only does Mrs. E want to do it with her 3/4s, but the 5s and 6s are keen too. Woohoo!
NOW – to work out how to actually do it. It’s all very well to have your head full of great ideas, but it takes careful planning and training to get there. Thankfully, there are several places to get Web2.0 tutorials (John Pearce for lots of Web2.0 applications, and Edublogs for what we’ve decided to do), so each of us, loaded up with info, headed off and started our own blogs. From here, I’m thinking (at the moment) we’ll get class blogs going then, when the kids have used a blog for a while, we’ll start them on their own. Again – small steps = greater chance of success.
